On December 28, 1931, Don Hector Vinicio Mella Escalante, father of our founding partner Vinicio Mella, was born in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Don Vinicio has been fortunate to have turned 90 and despite his age, he continues to visit our offices at least 3 days a week. Since the creation of E & M we have had the privilege of having him as an honorary advisor, offering us his support through his vast experience in the world of maritime business.
Don Vinicio is the eldest son of Candida Rosa Escalante and Ramón E. Mella (Don Tito) began working at the age of 14, when his father withdrew him from school when he was just in the 2nd grade of high school, so that from so At an early age he will dedicate himself to learning the maritime business.
He tells us that although he could not carry out the necessary studies to manage the family businesses, his experience was acquired in his father's company, in which he held all existing positions, from courier to president of said company, today , the Maritime and Commercial Agency (AMARIT), a position he held for 25 years.
His exhortation to young people who want to venture into maritime business is to study, to learn to speak English, as this is very necessary to work today. Don Vinicio tells us that before, education and training were not so necessary, that he remembers when the first containers arrived in the country and how the industry became specialized; Therefore, he recognizes that today with such competitiveness it is essential to train and study, speak several languages to offer quality services.
For this reason, he always took care that his children had the best possible education and could continue the legacy of their father Don Tito Mella, whom he thanks together with his mother for the great blessing of having brought him to this world in which he has enjoyed a long and wonderful life.
